Gjendemsjø Fiskwas established in the 1960's as a private company and the main activity has been production of smoked fish products, especially of salmon and mackerel. Later the product assortment has been enlarged by various other seafood products, but smoked salmon and mackerel still makes the great part of the production together with various herring products.

Gjendemsjø Fisk AS was established as a limited company in 1987 and in 2001 the company moved into a new and modern factory set up to meet the company's growing activities and high quality profile. This factory soon became too small to cope with the company’s increased activities and in 2007 another factory was bought nearby whereto all the herring production was moved. Today Gjendemsjø Fisk supplies supermarket chains and wholesalers in Norway as well as export customers in most parts of the world.

The founder of Gjendemsjø FiskAS has for several decades been involved in management of fishing vessels, a.o. two vessels catching herring and mackerel, as well as production companies and through this activity considerable expertise has been achieved conc. quality and treatment of fish. The companies situation at the west coast of Norway close to rich fishing grounds and fish farming areas has enabled access to high quality rawmaterial and the persons in charge of the rawmaterial has today high experience in choosing the correct rawmaterial for the company's production.

Gjendemsjø Fisk also owns 50% part of Hanord Sjømat AS situated on the island of Fjørtoft just off the coast of Brattvåg. The activity of Hanord Sjømat is mainly based on fresh fish and dried and salted fish. Also the salmon caviar is produced at this plant. Besides these activities Hanord Sjømat runs a lobster farm. |
